What is in my parenting toolbox?

I should probably be sleeping now, but I need to get better at posting more often. Yes, I know that I have been flying solo all week with my hubby traveling, but I just felt like I needed to post something interesting.

Why did I want a parenting tool box?

Well, part of the reason I created this blog was to try to organize my parenting resources into a tool box of sorts. I just felt like I was reading articles willy nilly (yes, that’s a technical term) while I was nursing and/or pumping in the middle of the night or during the day. I realize now that my brain definitely wasn’t functioning at 100% (not sure it ever will be again, but I think I am closer to it than before). I felt like I was skimming a lot of articles, but I wasn’t really absorbing as much as I wanted. One thing I did realize one night while I was up in the middle of the night feeding my youngest doodle bop was that my parenting magazine was getting a lot of followers on flipboard. I thought, “Wow, I didn’t realize people were actually subscribing to this.” I thought this because I was half awake while I was flipping parenting articles like a zombie to my magazine. I realized, I wasn’t the only one who liked to see parenting articles in one convenient spot.

Anyway, once I was emailed by FlipEDU (see this link below for more info on this wonderful collaboration of educational resources) letting me know that I have a featured magazine as a part of their FlipEDU community, I decided I needed to have a blog where I added my own experiences and personality. I also realized that I needed to actually start processing the parenting information I had gathered.

What is in my parenting tool box?

Here is what I am in the process of organizing below.

1-2-3 Magic Parenting Book

(I need to read more of this). I am taking notes as I read it, and I am going to blog and post tweets about my findings.

Positive Parenting Solutions (Joined as a Gold Member today after attending a free webinar)

See this link for more details. I will definitely blog and tweet about my findings. I look forward to sharing videos from this resource with my hubby.

My Parenting & Kids Magazine on Flipboard(I need to devise a strategy to really dive into these articles and create action steps on how to absorb important information.

Why is it not enough to just read parenting articles? Why won’t this make me a better parent?

Knowledge alone is just, well, information. I am one to become overwhelmed and fascinating by information all at the same time. I want to benefit from the information I have, not sure share it, like it etc. I want to grow and become a better parent with it.

Parenting Tip # 8 Figure out how you can best organize your parenting resources to have it help you achieve your parenting goals. In the end, if it isn’t reasonable, you probably won’t do it for long.

I leave you with a quote from Malcolm Gladwell that has influenced and inspired me to really do something powerful with the resources I have available. I don’t just want to be an information junkie.

Great quote ― Malcolm Gladwell, Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking

“The key to good decision making is not knowledge. It is understanding. We are swimming in the former. We are desperately lacking in the latter.”
