There Is No Perfect Time

“Once I lose 20 pounds, then I will.”

“Once things slow down…”

“Once I’m more advanced…”

“When I retire…”

We build these imaginary doorways in our minds.

We tell ourselves that on the other side of the next thing is the version of us who finally begins.

But here’s the truth:

There is no perfect time.

Waiting is comfortable. Waiting feels responsible. Waiting sounds wise.

But guess what happens when you wait?

Nothing.

Except the excuses win.

I’m not saying starting is easy. Life is messy. Kids need things. Work piles up. Grief hits at random moments. Motivation comes and goes.

But time?

Time does not stop.

Tomorrow is not guaranteed.

Today is the present — and a present.

I recently listened to Trent Shelton talk about how goals can become unhealthy if we’re so focused on the future that we miss the now. That hit me. What if the next ten minutes matter more than the next ten years?

What about:

The next small workout? The next healthy meal? The next kind word? The next brave “yes”? The next honest “no”?

Those moments build momentum. They jump-start the future without overwhelming us.

If I try to force myself into answering, “Where will I be in 5–10 years?” it can feel heavy. Overwhelming. Paralyzing.

Go back to 2016 in your mind for a minute.

How different is your life today?

We cannot predict the turns. The losses. The growth. The opportunities. The unexpected blessings.

Having standards matters.

Striving matters.

But boxing yourself into a rigid future can quietly set you up to freeze — or fail — before you even begin.

Not a Morning Mom isn’t about perfection.

It’s about imperfect action.

It’s about choosing:

Present over perfect Progress over planning Action over excuse

The next ten minutes are yours.

Start there.

Right now, one step at a time. 💝
